PRESIDENT BUHARI SACKS NIMASA BOSS, DISSOLVES BOARD OF FEDERAL AGENCIES AND PARASTATALS

President Muhammadu  Buhari on Thursday 16th July sacked the boss of Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Mr. Patrick Ziakede Akpobolokemi and also dissolved  the governing board of all Federal parastatals and agencies.
This was made known by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the dissolution was with immediate effect.
The President through his spokesman said that the Chief Executive Officers of the affected agencies and parastatals are to refer all matters that require attention to the President through the Permanent Secretaries of their supervising ministries pending when the new boards are reconstituted.
He however said the dissolution did not affect Federal Executive bodies listed in the 1999 Constitution but that the dissolution order covered administrative or technical committees and other similar organs established by the now dissolved board.
Adesina while announcing the sack of the NIMASA Director – General did not give reason for the termination of the appointment but said Mr. Akpobolokemi would hand over the Management of the agency and all government property in his possession to the most senior officer in the agency who will be in charge until a new successor is appointed.

The affected federal parastatals agencies and institutions include the Securities and Exchange Commission chaired by Ex-governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi; Nigeria Communications Commission, chaired by Mr. Peter Igoh; Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission chaired by the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Nicholas Okoh; Nigeria Railway Corporation, chaired by former National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur; and the Infrasture Concessionary and Regulatory Commission, chaired by Senator Ken Nnamani.
Others are Economic and Financial Crimes Commission chaired by Ibrahim Lamorde; Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, chaired by Mr. Ekpo Nta; Niger Delta Development Commission, chaired by Senator Bassey Ewo Henshaw; National Universities Commission; National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control; Nigeria Customs Service; Nigeria Shippers’ Council, National Youth Service Corps; Nigeria Boundary Commission; Nigeria Television Authority; Raw Materials Research and Development Council; National Educational Research and Development Council; National Lottery Regulatory Commission.

Also on the list are the boards of the National Pension Commission, Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission, National Human Right Commission, National Sports Commission, National Institute of Sports, Federal Housing Authority, Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority, Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority, Ogun-Osun   River Basin Development Authority, Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, Cross River Basin Development Authority, Chad Basin Development Authority, Hadeja-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority, Anambra-Imo River Basin Authority, Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority, Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority.
Others affected are National Teachers’ Institute, National Veterinary Research Institute, National Agriculture Extension and Research Liaison, Institute for Agricultural Research and Training Institute for Agricultural Research, Federal Institute for Industrial Research, Advertising Practisioners’ Council of Nigeria, Industrial Training Fund, Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, and the National Directorate of Employment and all Federal institutions of higher learning among others.

The Federal Executive bodies not affected by the dissolution are the Code of Conduct Bureau, Council of State, Federal Character Commission, Federal Civil Service Commission, and the Federal Judicial Commission.
Others are Independence National Electoral Commission, National Defense Council, National Economic Council, National Judicial Council, National Population Commission, National Security Council and the Nigeria Police Council.
The remaining two are the Police Service Commission and the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
