SOUTH WEST: ONDO STATE GOVERNANCE

NEWS TITBITS:

Gov. Olusegun Mimiko
In a bid to ensure accountability and prudent management of resources for even development, the Ondo State government is embarking in another verification exercise to weed out ghost workers and pensioners on its payroll.

This exercise according to the commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade had shown that the payroll of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) were still padded with ghost salary earners within government establishment across the 18 Local Government areas of the state.

Akinmade disclosed that the exercise became imperative when the state government observed that the allocation accruing to the state from the Federation Account and the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) were gulped by workers salaries on monthly basis leaving nothing for the implementation of other government developmental programmes.

He said at the commencement of the exercise, some workers were discovered to be receiving salaries meant for grade levels higher than their levels, while those who had died, resigned from service or retired were still earning salaries from government.
